Planning Robot Motion in a 2-D Region with Unknown Obstacles

The purpose of this paper is to present several algorithms for planning the motion of a robot in a two-dimensional region having obstacles whose shapes and locations are unknown. The convergence and efficiency of the algorithms are discussed and upper bounds for the lengths of paths generated by the different algorithms are derived and compared.

Motion planning algorithms for molecular simulations: A survey

Motion planning is a fundamental problem in robotics that has motivated research since more than three decades ago. A large variety of algorithms have been proposed to compute feasible motions of multi-body systems in constrained workspaces. In recent years, some of these algorithms have surpassed the frontiers of robotics, finding applications in other domains such as industrial manufacturing,...

Generalized Algorithms for Crew Planning: Survey and Future Directions for Railways

This paper studies the crew planning problem as observed in the transportation industry. We first survey the existing literature on crew scheduling applications in railways and airlines. Next, we identify the synergies in the two domains and propose new directions for railway crew scheduling inspired from the applications in airlines.

Fast Motion Planning by Parallel Processing - a Review

One of the many features needed to support the activities of autonomous systems is the ability of motion planning. It enables robots to move in their environment securely and to accomplish given tasks. Unfortunately, the control loop comprising sensing, planning, and acting has not yet been closed for robots in dynamic environments. One reason involves the long execution times of the motion pla...
